Tuesday 4th February 2020, is World Cancer Day and to mark the occasion we’ll be inviting clubs to support the charity by nominating their closest home fixture to the day as a dedicated Cancer Research UK match day. On this day, we would look to raise much-needed funds to ‘Blow the Whistle’ on cancer.
“It is important to highlight that cancer does not discriminate. We want to raise awareness by bringing clubs and survivors together on the pitch.” Martin Cassidy, live on Talksport
A cause close to all of our hearts here at RefSupportUK, and as the World’s leading cancer charity, we want to support Cancer Research UK as best we can. Thanks to the work they have done over the past 40 years, cancer survival rates have doubled in the UK.
Like us, Cancer Research UK receive no government funding and therefore the support of the football community is vital. The more money we can raise means more money can be spent on research, the more breakthroughs to saving lives can be made.
Martin said of the campaign “This charity is one my wife and I are extremely thankful for and a charity we have longed to support but couldn’t find the right fit. The Blow the Whistle idea is one we are really passionate about and feel fits well for our members and the football community. Any clubs taking part will be making a huge impact on raising awareness and funds for the charity to help beat cancer together.”
We’ll be announcing full details of how you can take part very soon. In the meantime, you can let us know you’re interested by sending us a message through our contact form and follow our Facebook or Twitter for the latest news.
